Google SWOT

Below is a copy of my SWOT analysis.  As a side note, I have created several of these for my company but found that certain people are looking for specific qualities in a SWOT (and business plan in general).  At times, the feedback has me confused on what is seen as a threat and what is seen as an opportunity - in a lot of cases, I find these items overlap.  Has anyone else had this problem?

I look forward to your comments!

  1. As far as performing the SWOT analysis...I found myself confused as well...kept switching a few things back and forth when I was filling out the strategy section...I also struggled with how specific the data should be that was listed in each section...worried that the information in mine was a little vague? I am a scientist by trade, so all of this is COMPLETELY foreign to me!

I agree that Google needs to somehow do a better job of making consumers more aware of their many products that are available. Their strength is in advertising, so one would assume it shouldn't be too difficult to do.

Because of their superior branding, as a company they should be able to attract top talent, and therefore remain at the cutting edge of technology. Coupling their innovation strength with expert marketing would would be one strategy in which they would be able to retain the consumers they already have, attract new ones, and make them a desirable partner when looking to aquire or collaborate with other firms.

  2. I love your idea about the strengh of Google is its brand identy equels to innovation. It is the truth that Google brought a new era for people.I don't agree that the late intruduction of Google+ will be a threat to it. Google has the huge population base of Gmail customers and search engine customers, which is a big advantage for it and hardly compete with. Google also acquire Youtube and other social network required patents. With all these resource and Google's technological tean, I have great faith in Google+.

  3. I agree with you that one of the defensive strategies for Google could be to bring in other innovative companies into the brand. By doing so, not only Google can stay on the cutting edge of technology, but also garner large patent suit that could be used to defend Google against future law suits.

  4. Mengting, thank you very much for your comments. I agree with your note regarding the large customer base that Google maintains and completely agree they have a tremendous advantage. However, I would argue that as a gmail user myself I have little interest in the networking capabilities of Google since I have already spent time with Facebook and getting connected to my friends and family through that venue. Google does have great resources and I also have faith that they'll continue to make advancements in many areas, but I don't have as much faith that they can overcome the social networking space. Although, I appreciate your take on it as well. Thank you!
